Dear Parents, Carers and Year 6 Students
re: Secondary School Transfer 2020
We are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students to the school in September and I wanted to update you on our plans for transition to The Spires College, given the current situation.
Despite a lot of speculation in the media, there is still no confirmed plan to fully reopen schools. Given the uncertainty as to when we will be able to open again, we have no alternative but to cancel all of our face to face transition events within school, including Summer School. However, the staff at The Spires College remain committed to supporting our new students and their parents/carers during this time of uncertainty. We understand the importance of these events and will therefore be hosting virtual transition events along with a virtual tour of the school. The cancellation of Summer School is something we had desperately hoped to avoid and so we are already planning how we can support the transition from Year 6 into 7 once we can open to more year groups. Please be assured that we will do all we can to nurture and support all new members of our college community.
We will send out more information about our virtual events in the week beginning Monday 22 June. This personalised pack will include information about the student’s tutor and members of staff that will be teaching them from September, as well as a fun activity booklet for students to complete in place of our transition day activities.
For the virtual events to succeed, we will need a current email address for each new student’s parent or carer. If this was given on the student registration form, no further action is required. If your email address was not entered or your email address has changed, please email Mrs Woodcock at: email@example.com with your new details.
Both Mr Kay, one of our Assistant Principals, and Mr Thomas, Acting Head of Year 7, have been busy talking to all the Year 6 teachers and have been overwhelmed by the positive and wonderful comments they are hearing about the students. They can’t wait to meet you!
Our SENDCo, Mrs Kolek, is also liaising with Primary Schools to ensure a smooth transition for students who require additional support with special educational needs or disabilities.
If you would like to speak to any of these teachers you can contact them by emailing:
- Mr Kay, Assistant Principal firstname.lastname@example.org
- Mr Thomas, Acting Head of Year 7 email@example.com
- Mrs Kolek, SENDCo firstname.lastname@example.org
Please remember that the deadline for ordering uniform is Friday 19 June 2020. The first day of the autumn term and our new Year 7’s first day as students of The Spires College is Monday 7 September 2020. We very much hope to be fully open by that point but we will keep you updated as the government announce further information on school re-opening. I hope that the transition from primary to secondary school runs smoothly and look forward to welcoming you to our college community.
