World Challenge Training Expedition
Some of our students took to the Moors last weekend for a training expedition for their upcoming trip to Morocco with World Challenge.
On Saturday they embarked upon a technically challenging walk over some short alpine style ridges and squeezes through caves and boulders to test their agility and speed on uneven terrain. The students performed brilliantly and showed no signs of slowing down, even when the rain came in. They learned a lot about local plants and fungi and were shown what treats could be found along the way.
When we got back to base they were given instructions on how to use the cooking equipment and supervised to cook their meal from scratch. All of the students got stuck in to the preparation, cooking and cleaning, showing already that they make a great team, which is needed for the challenges that await them in Morocco.
Saturday night was a wet one and also the very first night that one of the team had ever spent in a tent! A lot was learned the hard way, with regards to what sleeping mats and pillows are uncomfortable and what improvements are required before two weeks is spent under canvas.
The students went for another, longer, walk on Sunday. This tested a few of the team after their long day on Saturday but their grit and determination shone through. The World Challenge staff complimented them on this and could not praise them enough for being such a motivated and high spirited group.
