The Geography curriculum at The Spires College aims to promote a curiosity and thirst for learning about the world we live in. Students will develop and extend their understanding of social and physical processes within the context of places, recognising differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes, and environments across the world, and exploring links that exist between them. Our curriculum is sequenced purposefully so that powerful knowledge and fundamental skills and concepts are taught at the beginning of KS3. This ensures that students are equipped with a foundation that they need to achieve well and better understand the world around them. Past and present real-world examples are used to illustrate and develop a true sense of place, from local to global scale, and geographical enquiry will allow students to develop the confidence to ask and answer investigative questions about the world around us. The Geography curriculum is enriched by incorporating a wide variety of fieldwork opportunities, fund-raising projects, competitions, and clubs. Through learning about Geography our students will become more socially and environmentally sensitive, and more responsible global citizens.
