Governance Arrangements Consultation

The College is proposing to make a minor change to its governance arrangements and is consulting with parents, staff and the local authority. 

At the moment the college is a “Foundation Trust School”. This means that a separate Trust body known as the Westlands Trust has the right to nominate two places on the College’s governing body. This has been the position since 2010, but the Trust is no longer active in school life and it means that there are always two vacancies on the College governing body which cannot be filled.  Therefore the College proposes to close the Trust and change category to a Foundation School. This will mean the College will be able to recruit additional governors.

This change would not affect the day to day running of the College. The Principal will still lead the College overseen by the governing body and the College will continue to be the employer of staff. 

If you have any comments or questions about the proposal please email enquiries@thespirescollege.com or write to the PA to the Principal at the College. The closing date for comments is 31 March 2019. 

Any comments regarding this proposal will be considered by the College governors who will decide whether to proceed with this change. If the governors decide to proceed, then this will mark the end of what is known as “informal consultation” and would be followed by “formal consultation”. Notices would be published in the local newspaper and comments invited.
