Train to Teach

Would you like to find out more about training to teach?

The Spires College is proud to be a partner in the South West Training School Alliance (SWTSA).  You can find more details about SWTSA, including information about Initial Teacher Training on their website http://www.swtsa.org.uk

Teaching schools provide the opportunity for all schools to learn from the very best.  They have a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers, support staff and Headteachers or Principals, as well as contributing to the raising of standards through school-to-school support.

The South West Teaching School Alliance (SWTSA) was one of the first cohort of 100 schools to be designed as a Teaching School in September 2011 and is led jointly by Kingsbridge Community College and Ivybridge Community College.

SWTSA has three main aims:

  1. To intervene and support schools in need
  2. To promote high quality Initial Teacher Training (ITT)
  3. To develop teaching and leadership skills more generally across our network of schools.

SWSTA membership is drawn from across primary schools, secondary schools and higher education institutes in the South West.
